Kelly Ripa Fundraising for Global Green USA
April 19, 2010
Kelly Ripa, morning talk show host and Regis Philbin sidekick, is working with Electrolux to host her first live webcast in support of Earth Day and Global Green USA.
The first episode is called “Green Idea Swap.” Ripa's guests include, Josie Maran, creator of her own eco-friendly makeup line, Zem Joaquin, founder and CEO of Ecofabulous, and Anna Getty, a green living and holistic lifestyle expert.
Up to $25,000 will be given by Electrolux to Global Green USA. Interestingly, the group’s board members include Leonardo DiCaprio and Edward Norton, both of whom are described as actor-activists.
The following from the Global Green website is quite eye-opening: “Founded in 1994 by activist and philanthropist Diane Meyer Simon, Global Green is the American Arm of Green Cross International (GCI), which was created by President Mikhail S. Gorbachev to foster a global value shift toward a sustainable and secure future by reconnecting humanity with the environment.”
Gorbachev, the longtime environmental activist and former Soviet dictator, probably won't be mentioned in the Ripa Internet show.
The group’s mission includes “eliminating weapons of mass destruction that threaten lives and the environment . . . ”
WMDs are of course bad for the environment. But this type of language affords the organization the opportunity to meddle in international diplomacy, and tragically these days national security is on the line.
Out of line recently was actor Danny Glover.
As his latest movie, “Death at a Funeral,” was making its debut, he was getting himself arrested for engaging in some 1960s nostalgia.
Allegedly, he and some of his friends trespassed and took part in a noisy protest against a food company in Maryland.
Glover and 11 others were busted by local cops as they rallied against Sodexo, a French food manufacturer, over the level of wages workers were being paid in the cafeteria.
With unemployment at record levels in the state and elsewhere, many were no doubt thinking, “At least someone’s got a job.”
Apparently, the workers weren’t members of a union like most government employees.
Now the actor's agent has the unenviable task of convincing studio execs that Glover won't do a repeat of the arrest while his next film is opening.
In addition to the “Lethal Weapon” franchise, Glover is best known for his unwavering support of dictators including Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez.
In his far-left activist past, he wrote a letter prior to the 82nd Annual Academy Awards calling on male Oscar presenters such as Sean Penn and Quentin Tarantino to boycott Hugo Boss suits. He was purportedly protesting the clothing company's plans to close plants and lay off workers.
With the tax increases that the Dems are floating, the general anti-business atmosphere they’re fostering, and massive debt they’re creating, Glover will soon have his pick of companies to yammer at.
